polish version Home Up Amorphophallus beccarii

Photos of Amorphophallus beccarii. They have been taken on the Kerinci Volcano (2005)

Kerinci Mountain - 3085 meters above the sea level. It is completely covered with Jungles. Its hills are always moist and humid. An Amorphophallus beccarii can be found in high forest (1800-2150 meters above the sea level). The volcano is placed 200 km from the Ecuador, however the temperature during night can reach only few degrees Celsius above the freezing point.

Most of the specimens reach around 150 cm, however it can vary.

It produces scaly bulbs on their leaves. A big plant can even produce 4 bulbs.

We have not seen any fresh inflorescence but we managed to find few fruiting bodies, all of which in the same state of ripeness. Therefore, may be there is a specific period of time for it to flower. However, we only have seen 4 of the fruiting bodies, and therefore this hypothesis can be completely flawed. As you can see the florescence is quit big, even a meter high.

The jungle is full of them, probably because of its vegetative reproduction. A mother plant can produce even several offspring without blooming every year. The pictures below show a young bulb and its first sprout. It is not covered with soil.
